Relax With Rover

Helping the Community One Dog at a Time
Relax with Rover is a program that is all about helping relieve stress and anxiety with those in the community with the help of therapy dogs!  We have four different programs that work with those in the community.  We have programs that work with students and those in need.
We have mentorship programs, reading programs, therapy programs. We have fundraising calendars to benefit animal rescues and groups along with volunteer fireman.  They are all volunteer programs!

The RUFF Dog Project

We work with rescue dogs from Sandi Paws Animal rescue and PURR-Fect Match Animal Rescue.  We help, train, rehabilitate and find them good homes!

Mentorship Program

The full responsibility of dog training should still remain with the adults, but that’s no reason to leave kids completely out of the process. Kids don’t have to be involved in the complicated aspects of training to bond with the dog. Basic skills such as getting a dog to sit, stay down, come to you, and walk on a leash are easily taught with adult supervision.  These simple tasks can help your child feel that she is an important contributor. One tip: Use a food treat as an incentive to guide your dog into position when teaching your kid these skills.

Reading With Rover

The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading. Many of the children chosen for this program have difficulties reading and as a result have developed self-esteem issues. They are often self-conscious when reading aloud in front of other classmates.
By sitting down next to a dog and reading to the dog, all threats of being judged are put aside. The child relaxes, pats the attentive dog, and focuses on the reading. Reading improves because the child is practicing the skill of reading, building self-esteem, and associating reading with something pleasant.
